... be mounted on its side? If I wanted to install one on its side, am I asking for trouble? Has anyone ever known of an Optima leaking? Their website says they can be mounted in almost any position. Does anyone know if they can really handle this for long periods of time?

They advertise that but will they repair the damage if it leaks? I think I would shy away from doing that if possible. -

Yes, you can mount them on their side, or upside down for that matter. I'm sure Grant will post on here, but he is doing an install right now in a MC 209 where he has four of them mounted on their side underneath the back seat. There is nothing to leak in these batteries since they are dry cell. And yes, I believe the model D24M is the one everyone is using.2008 Super Air Nautique 210TEComment

No worries laying the Optima down like that. My question is why do you want the terminals on the floor? Flip it around with them on top and get/make a cover for it. It be easier to install/remove. I would also be concerned with the side posts sitting on a possible wet floor.

The battery is nonspillable and is tested according to ICAO Technical Instructions DOC. 9284-AN/905 to meet the requirements of Packing Instructions No. 806 and is classified as non-regulated by IATA Special Provision A-48 and A-67 for UN2800.
