    "chipping" your PCM engine

I just got done chipping my Cummings in my Dodge and started thinking......Does anyone have any insight, experience or research on putting an after market engine programmer on their PCM motor? I'm not sure if it would work, but I thought GM made the engines for PCM. To be specific I have a 2007 375 HP ZR-6.

No, there is no aftermarket programmer for that system. The programming is encrypted so it cannot be reprogrammed unless it is a program directly from PCM.

I had a guy try to do it, and after he "flashed" the memory, and reprogrammed it, ti wouldn't run..I had to send the ECM back to PCM and they reprogrammed, it..I
This was on my '99, YMMV!

Thanks Miljack. That pretty much sums it all up if you tried it and had to send the ECM back for reprogramming. I was trying to find a way to get a little more HP and gas mileage out of the engine.

My guess is that if you pushed the issue PCM would be required to give you the code to program it after the motor is out of warranty.

PCM will not "open up" the ECM for programming adjustments. However these are standard MEFI controllers so you can wipe them clean and start from scratch if you have that kind of knowledge. Keep in mind the factory program is not a compromise of emissions, gas mileage, and driver safety/comfort like you have in a new car. These controllers are highly optimized for what you are doing with your motor.
