    Running temp.

I have a 97 Nautique. I noticed over the weekend is was running around 180 degrees. Is that too hot? For some reason I'm thinking it should be around 160. Thanks!

My '06 runs 174. Under any stress load. If I saw it rise to 180 I would check my water strainer to ensure good water flow, and keep an eye on it. I clean it out every day anyway. Does the always run 180, or did it just jump up?

I check the strainer regularly as our lake is fairly weedy, especially this time of year. I seem to remember it running cooler than that. Am wondering if the thermostat is starting to fail.

I have a similar issue and am finding it may be the impeller also? Where is the strainer and impeller located? I just got my boat and cannot find manual online for my 1992 nautique

you will need to pull the water pump and open to see the impeller. If you do that, just plan on replacing it while you have it open. An impeller is around 10 bucks. Your strainer will be in the back of the motor. Its just a clear jar that filter the engine cooling water. Simply unscrew it and clean it out. Fill it with clean water and screw back on. Careful not to drop the rubber o-ring inside the jar.

Let me clarify. Careful not to loose the o-ring that IS inside the jar.

160 under full load with a warm engine is normal. 180 is not. 180 is not too high to cause damage, but it means something is not quite right.
