Olie Pressure sending Unit, faulty gauge ??

First off, sorry for the rather long description of the problem.

the boat and engine for this question is a Ski Nautique year 2001 with a fuel injected 351 GT40 engine.

our oil pressure gauge goes beyond the scale when started, ever since coming out of winter storage.

The engine works fine, and i have sailed over 20 hours without any problems so far this season. so the question is what is the problem.

The GT40 as far as i can see, has two oil pressure switches next to each other, just below the fuel pumps.

The first one is connected to the engine management unit, and as I understand, if it does not work, or it gets to high oil pressure, the red light in the dash goes off, and the engine goes into limp mode.

The second Called the oil pressure sending unit (looks a bit like a bell) is connected directly to the gauge in the dash, and nothing else.

First off the gauge just went off the scale when IGN mode was on, (without the engine running yet) This should not happen as there is no oil pressure yet. as if the sending unit was stuck, and just sending full signal

So i changed the oil sending unit with a "PS-60" standard auto part sending unit, made for the Ford 351 Winsor engine. (difficult long delivery time to get original PCM spare parts in Denmark, but should be the same, and it looks the same visually)

Now it behaves ok in IGN mode,(it just lifts a little) but when engine is started it still goes of the scale. but I am confident that the oil pressure is not to high

So my conclusion is that the frequency of the sending unit does not match the gauge.

Should i wait it out for and original part. or does any one have any ideas ??

is the oil sending unit in for cars different than the marine sending unit??

    Please Help !!!!!!!!!
