starts but wont stay running!!! HElP

    Hey all,

I have a 2000 SAN 5.8L H.O. It will start but it revs to around 2000 RPM then dies. It will start every time but it will not continue to run. The boat ran great last weekend no issues what so ever. If I keep it in neutral but rev the throttle all the way then start it it will rev higher but still dies in 2-3 seconds. I was looking on this site on my phone at the boat and figured out my way to the eec of fcc, whatever it is called. I am no boat tech. It has the three fuses i believe a 15, 20, and 60 amp. The 60 amp fuse (located on top) appeared to be blown out, but i was unable to press it back in. I live about 70 miles away from where the boat is stored in a small town with no parts store. So whatever I need I have to take with me.

Here is what I have gathered from the things i have read on here so far.
    1. Could be a bad wire connection causing the fuse to blow.
Solution? Find the wire and make a solid connection so it does not come back out?

    2. Could be fuel pump, as i understand it will prob.be one or the other high or low?
Solution? Go to auto zone and rent a fuel pressure gauge.
Question, where do I hook it up? What should the pressure be?

    3. Could be clogged fuel filter screen inside of the canister?
    Solution? Clean the filter???
Question, is there a inline filter as well as the combination canister filter, water seperator?

Question, What should the voltage be at the low pump, and what should it be at the high pressure pump?

Question, What are the three fuses for that i mentioned above? they are in a verticle line 60 being on top?
I believe that the relays are the small black boxes on the same pannel below where the fuses are?

It sounds to me like people have similar problems on here, but not exactly like what I am seeing on my boat.
The boat runs great this is the first problem, I absolutly love the boat but I need it to run!!!

Thank you in advance for the help. I just hope for some reason someone who knows about my issue here is not at the lake!!!!!

    First, check the safety lanyard.

Safety lanyard is good, fuel pump will not cycle of safety lanyard is not connected. 60 amp fuse appear to be blown, any ideas?

First off does the fuel pumps cycle when you power up the dash to turn the gauges on? If they do not, check your safety lanyard, bypass it by hooking the wires on the back together with some type of wire connector. If you want to check your fuel pumps they both should have 12 volts or battery voltage at them when you cycle the ignition on. The circuit breakers are for main power(60 amp), the fuel pumps (15 amp) and ignition system (12.5) and when they trip they do not pop out very far, when you push on them they will click and they do not sit flush when they are not tripped.

The fuel pumps do cycle when I cycle the ignition. I pulled the breaker and tested it. It tested good, I pulled the fuel filter canister off. The filter seems to be pretty dirty. I am going to order a new one and try that next. Thank you for the information. Any other suggestions if replacing the filter does not work?

The safety lanyard interrupts the fuel pumps with the key or switchbox in run position.
When cranking the engine, the "stop" from the safety lanyard is overridden.

Here is how you test for fuel pressure.

With the key on, and the connection made in the second picture, the fuel pumps should also run.

Another quick test of the fuel pumps is to jump pin 30 to pin 87 on the fuel pump relay socket.
            This post explains the relays.
