whats this ?

Lift up the cup holder next to the driver seat, there is a small black box 2x2 inches with a machine metal knob with a line mark engraved on top . there are two good size electric wires going into this box. you can reach your hand though the removed cup-holder and turn it, any body know what this might be or do ? My boat is a 2010 230 team.

It sounds like the adjustment knob for the analog speedo in the boat.
