    zr6 fuel issues again

i can not find my last thread so i will start over because i need some help please. i have a 2005 196 ski with zr6 motor with 460 hours. have had zero problems. last time out after about one hour engine came to idle, sounds like starving for fuel and then came to a stop. takes 5 to ten keys starts and about five min to restart. problem my then not happen again for hours or 5 min.

step 1: installed fuel pressure guage at port and used boat until it happened again. looked at guage and showed 10 psi pressure until engine stopped. motor would not restart until guage suddenly jumped to
70 psi and motor ran fine.

step 2: replace both low pressure, high pressure fuel pumps, and fuel filter (it was clean and no signs of water)

step 3: test boat today, ran great for a while, then same thing. no fuel pressure. motor does not start until guage jumps from 0 to over 60 psi. then runs fine until pressure is lost. could be 5 five min or and
hour. it will do it at any time. load or no load. idle or 20 mph.

this is what i have noticed. i have drained drain fuel fuel cell when boat has been running fine and get almost a quart of fuel from it. this time when engine shut off i did not try to restart motor. i removed 7/16 fuel drain plug and about 2 ounces of fuel came out instead of the quart.

i have also put my mouth over the fuel tank vent and blown into the vent with no problem. i believe my tank is venting. i also swapped the locations of the wire harnesses on the three relays on top of the ecm. i did not have any new ones, just plugged each one to a different one. they are all the same.

what do i do next. my boat is not showing any codes.

Does your fuel pumps cycle when you activate the dash when the problem occurs. Check for power and ground when the problem occurs on the engine. If you have no voltage then you need to trace the wiring back to find out where it is loosing power. I would check your fuel pump relay for proper output, because it sounds like it is not working properly and its cutting out.

thought for sure it was the relay. but i switched all three and put them in different ones. unless two are bad at the same time, then it is not the relay. can a bad keypad cause this?

not gonna believe this. i just noticed that everytime this happened, i had water in a fatsack that i have in the trunk. took the back panels out of trunk and found that my fuel line is being pinched by the panel when the fat sac pushes on the panel. the 90 degree fitting coming out of tank is pointing towards back of boat instead of running lengthwise with tank. that equals a kinked hose. going to go try it now

I hope that's the problem. And its kind of humorous. Maybe next you'll tell us your wife suggested you check that? ...if your not too embarrassed.

boat runs perfect. everybody should check this. well now i have two new fuel pumps and pair of good backups. all you have to have is one 90 degree fitting pointing the wrong way and with a little pressure from the trunk your line will be pinched.

              Buck,

I see the humor in this. But atleast you found the issue out.
