Perfect Pass issues in speed mode

    Perfect Pass issues in speed mode

    I am usually the guy helping my friends work out the bugs with Perfect Pass but this one on my own boat has be stumped. The system works perfectly in RPM mode. The analog speedo running off the same paddle wheel as the PP works perfectly. When I run the PP in speed mode for wakeboarding or surfing it does not want to hold a speed. Also the digital speedo is displaying speeds 2-10mph over actual speed? Likely the system is getting the same input speed as the display but it still does not make sense. I adjusted the kdw and nn today but the system is continually.

    Any ideas?

    Next move will probably be a system reset.

    Hi Mikeski,

    A system reset is a good start. If your paddlewheel speed is reading faster than you're actually going, and it is erratic, there's a chance that electrical noise from your ignition system is being picked up by PP and falsely interpreted as a paddlewheel pulse. Have you done any electrical work or moved any wires around since the issue started happening?

      the only thing I have installed around the time this issue started is the onboard battery charger, promariner prosport 20. unlikely but I guess it could be causing an issue?

        It's hard to say. If it's easy, I would try removing the battery charger just as an experiment. Sometimes even passive elements turn into radiating antennas when energized with interference.

        It might be a pain, but you could also try disconnecting all the PP wires except the power and paddlewheel and see if the speed is still erratic. Obviously you'll have to reconnect a manual throttle to do this, as the servo motor won't have power. If you still have erratic speed, you could try disconnecting even the paddlewheel wire. If you see anything but 0.0 the entire time, you could have interference issues.

        Other than interference, the only thing I can think of that would cause the speed to be detected faster than you're actually going is some major CPU issues, perhaps caused by corrosion. In this case, a CPU replacement may be your only option...
