    Rebuild or buy remanufactured engine?

So, a friends boat needs the engine rebuilt due to water in the cylinders and rusting into place. Should he rebuild it or get a remanufactured engine? What was that company anyways?

I had a remanufactured GT 40 in my last boat by www.jasperengines.com. I bought the boat used, don't know who did the install but it was tight.

This might sound a bit elementary, but what is his tool and skill set like? Does he have the tools, time and expereience to rebuild his own, or not?

Personally, I would likely rebuild my own, that way I would know what parts went into it, if I wanted to change anything (more power, etc.)

It isn't really rocket surgery, and all of us who know, got taught by someone.. so even if he doesnt know, if he can find a kind soul willing to pay it forward, it could be a nice learning experience for him, (and any kids he may have)... just a thought...
