    '94 PCM TBI Info

Hello, new member here. Wanted to get anyone's thoughts on the PCM TBI engine as far as reliability, maintainability, horsepower, etc. I'm looking at a mid-90's SN with approx 350 hrs with this engine. I haven't been able to find much info on the internet. I've also looked through this sight, but given the amount of info posted here I may have missed something.

I've heard (and read) great things about the GT40, just not too much on the PCM TBI. :?:

thanks in advance for the help,
    - CJ

    RE:

It is a good engine. I think there were a couple of service bulletins for it so you might want to make sure that those have been performed. The engine has 300 hp and works well! Just check it over for normal maintenance.

CJ is that a picture of the engine in the boat you are looking at? Because if it is then it is not a EFI engine but it has a carburator on it. The Ford tbi engines were used only used between 1994 and 1995 and if they were not adjusted properly they did not run right. Make sure if it is a Ford tbi then check for a red throttle arm where the throttle cable is hooked up denoting a updated tbi unit.

Yes, this is a pic of the engine. I haven't been down to see the boat in person, but he forwarded me the pics. Hate to show my ignorance here, but aren't TBI engines carburated? I definitely know it's not an EFI (which would be the GT-40, right?)

He did say that it has run well for him since he bought it, he is 2nd owner and bought from a dealer a couple years back. Next time I talk to him I'll ask about the red throttle arm which sounds like it signifies the update - I'm assuming this was as a result of one of the service bulletins that skinautique referred to in the previous reply?

There is Multi Port Fuel Injection (MPI = GT-40) and Throttle Body Injection (TBI=Pro Boss)

To clarify, the TBI setup electronically dispurses gas into the entire intake plenum exactly like a carb. MPI has an injector for each cylinder, and a "dry" intake which only takes in air. gas is then shot into the cylinders as needed just behind the intake valve with that cylinder's individual injector.
