    2000 ski nautique

i have a 2000 196 with keypad ignition. I had a problem the other day when the boat would not start. when i pushed the start button and i could hear a click below the dash. i had to jumper the starter to get it going. has anyone had this problem? is there a relay that could be going bad?

thanks in advance for any help

Yes I have had this problem. http://www.nautiqueowner.com/forum/f...estions#320089

Still do on occasion, we played with the battery cables and what not. I think the issue is bad connection in battery cables on the battery or along the way some where.

Hey guys, not sure if this helps, but I had a similar problem on mine that bugged me for years. Every once in awhile when I pressed start I would just hear a click at the starter and then nothing. I always thought it was a bad connection or a battery was low and found that after I turned my crossover switch to both batteries it would normally start. Last year it got to the point where it would take 10-15 pushes to fire up. After some trouble shooting I discovered it was the starter relay, $40 part that took me about 40 min to install. Now it fires up every time...turns out it had slowly been going out for years.

Yes that is where it was located. I can take a picture for you tonight if you want. Sorry for the not getting back to you sooner, I was at Lake Pillsbury in Northern Cal with no cell service last week.

I just ordered a new starter relay from nautiqueparts...worth a shot since it's so cheap. I'll throw it in as soon as we get it and report back.

Take pictures, and careful notes where each wire goes on the relay. It looks like the starter relay on a lot of older Ford cars, but it is not hooked up the same way.

Started our boat up the other day without any issue no clicking or anything. Multiple times. Wondering if the heat we've had (it was cooler this time) has anything to do with it???

We DID put our new relay in. Works...so far. Like I said, it started fine again just before we installed so if it doesn't come back to clicking again soon I think we'll be good to go!
