Randon Check Engine Light and Limp Mode Causes ???

Just spend a couple hours wakeboarding and surfing behind my '05 Air 216. All of a sudden I am getting the check engine light and engine goes into limp mode. Let it sit for 20 minutes and then it ran normal all the way home. This happened 3 times in 2 hours while riding. Anybody know what may be the cause??????????? Thanks for any ideas you may have. 7natutiques.

What is the engine temp doing when in limp mode?

I wonder if your impeller might be the issue.

I know the oil pressure switch is known to be bad on that year. It is pretty cheap to replace. If you are having the limp home problem, and know where the switch is, you can disconnect it and you will get the check oil pressure light but the gauge will still work, but it will not go into limp home mode so it will still be rideable. I took one for a test drive and the same thing happened.

the switch does not effect the gauge, if you disconnect the sending unit then you loose the gauge, so disconnect the sensor with the green wire and re test the boat.

Awesome! I’m a new 2005 226 owner, I’ve been lurking but this is my first post to thank you guys for saving me today. Went into limp mode, I was stressed about getting the check engine codes read and while on the water found some information on my phone but this info from 2012 saved the day. Those of you who generously offer your expertise are greatly appreciated by guys like me.
