    Green Jabsco Impellars prevent backflow

I was having an issue in my ballast system where the sacks / tanks were losing water. Every couple of sets, I was having to put more water in. After some investigation, I decided that the issue could be that the older yellow impellers still in my pumps were letting the water drain back out. I bought new green impellers and swapped them out. Problem went away. So just want to share my expereince that the green impellers prevent backflow much better than the yellow ones.

On another note, I had heard that the initial design of these pumps used black impellers, then the yellow ones were the 2nd generation then the green is current. On my center tank pump, I have a blue impeller. It may be bonded/glued to the shaft. When i was trying to remove it, it would not slip from the shaft and I ended up leaving it in there for the moment. Anybody know what the blue impellers were?

Mines the opposite. I had the original black ones in mine for years.........then changed to the green ones. Now my bags will fill up a little if my main valve is left open. It never used to do that with the black ones............

I replaced a worn out green one with the black one due to recomendation of dealers mechanic. He said the black one were better. I had prob last weekend with the pump containing black one tripped the breaker. I removed the cover and impeller, reset the breaker to make sure was turning, put back together and was working again. I went on nautique parts to see bout getting me some spares and i noticed on their comments of the green ones that they dont carry the black ones due to them being known to burn up pumps. It caused mine to lock up and trip the breaker. I will be using th green only from now on.

If those black ones sit for awhile, sometimes they will stick when you go to use the pumps and then blow the fuse. I've learned to always bump the pumps the opposite direction after each use so that way the vanes are going in the right direction for the next use. I kept all my black ones.....so I'll see where I end up.

I have the green ones in my pumps, but couldn't you just open up the pump assembly and "lube it up" a few times a season to make sure they don't stick, maybe with a lithium grease etc?

If you activate the pumps briefly to fill the ballasts after you've just drained them, there will be water in the pump and the pipes, that will diminish greatly the risk of an impeller sticking. Also when the sensors indicate that the ballast is empty, stop the corresponding pump, it is on a timer, not linked to the sensors.

Its not that they stick, it's most impeller sytle pumps made by Jasco are not reversible. They used the same impeller on this pump and the vines are stiff and will not "flip" as easy as the softer green ones. I sell many impellers for many pumps and many types of rubber. The black rubber is stiffest.

That makes sense. I guess that would also explain the intermittent reports of leaking when using the green impellers. To be honest, mine may fill a bit while I am cruising from one spot to another, but I guess I am not very observant
