An 89 with a warner trans? Don't you mean the PCM 1.23/1 trans and it also used dextron.

My 89 2001 had 20wt oil in the tranny the first time I changed it. My dealer recommened flushing the tranny and replacing it with Dexron III since 20wt is so hard to find now. By flushing, he said to just change it 3 times running it for 5 minutes between each change. The tranny will be slightly louder with the Dexron according to PCM, but so far I can't tell any difference.
