GT 40-no start

Hello,
Our 1994 GT 40 (fuel injection/EFI) will not start, no sputtering whatsoever. Unlike usual, when ignition is on I do NOT hear low pressure fuel pump priming system. I hear an initial click but no priming/pumping. At fuel pressure gauge check-valve on fuel injector rail there is no evidence of pressure or fuel. When I crank it over I have visual spark at #1 spark plug. When starting fluid shot into air cleaner engine sputters/wants to fire unlike cranking without SF.

1) Is an inoperative low pressure fuel pump sufficient reason for engine not to start at all?
2) What is the best way to troubleshoot the LPFP? Should I start by replacing the relays? What is the procedure for testing if the LPFP is getting power?
3) I only have access to the boat on weekends. What parts/specialty tools do you suggest I have with me next weekend?

boat should run without a working LP FP as long as the tank is full. If your symptom is the engine is turning over fine but not popping at all, I'd definitely first check all of the "brain dead" no start issues such as the lanyard as well as the neutral switch run off of the shifter/throttle. Beyond that, hook up a fuel pressure guage on the high pressure rail (there should be a shraeder valve) and check to see that you have 35+ PSI as you crank her over.

A GT-40 will run without a low pressure fuel pump, until the FCC is half full. At that point, the high pressure pump is no longer submerged in fuel and cannot pump what it cannot get supplied to it.

Either the original poster figured out the problem, or he has not been to the boat in the last two weekends. It was their first post, so who knows?

Hey everyone sorry for not responding. Finally got back in the boat yesterday and replaced the fuel pump relay, seems to have done the trick. This website has been extremely helpful and I really appreciate you guys taking the time to share your thoughts.
