Fuel sender for '97 Super Sport?

Has anyone replaced the fuel sender on their boat (specifically an older Super Sport Nautique, mine is a '97), or do you have access to a microfiche online that I can look up which part I will need?

My sender crapped out on me over the winter, and I'm finally tired of guessing how full the boat is. I don't know which one I would need from the Nautiqueparts.com website.

Here is the one I 'think' I need: http://www.nautiqueparts.com/fueltan...itpre2000.aspx

However, the one in that picture is different from my sending unit - the shaft that runs perpendicular to the top plate on my sending unit is a lot longer (but don't know if that matters)... any ideas?

In my 2000 it's pretty easy. You open the back hatch. and there is a inspection hatch open it and you can access the 6 screws that hold the sender in place. Make sure it isn't just a loose or corroded connection connection causing the trouble. The float and shaft I think can be switched out between the old and new. I would call Nautiqueparts and talk to them about what you need. Once you have the old one out you can also test it with an ohm meter to see if the resistance changes as you move the float up and down with your hand. Good luck.

I have your boat and have not replaced the sender. I have however replaced my carpet and to do this I needed to remove the tank Pulling the back seat out is simply two pins at the base and then lift the back seat rest up. The tank is right there. There are 2 or 3 support brackets that keep the tank in place with straps I believe. Relieve these straps and slide the tank forward. This is a good time to look at your wiring that is on the tank as well. 15 years of water on these wires will lead to corrosion.

I have removed the sending unit in cars before. Once you are at the tank it is a simple swap maneuver. I do not recall if you should RTV the cap at all? I think the answer is no, however i would double check it. While you are there, check out your overall fuel lines that go from the tank to the pump. Look for cracks splits etc. Better to do it once and do it right This project should take you 2-3 hours tops.
