    ballast pump buttons Question

On my 2003 226 LE it has on the dash 3 buttons for Ballast I want to try to use these to control my ballast puppy pumps even if i have to use these to trigger a relay.

Port Starbord and center I have found the wires that turn on when you push the 3 buttons but there are 3 more sets of wire that I assume are for revesing the pumps but i dont know how you get the factory system to drain. do you double push the buttons or hold them down for a legnth of time?

Here are the wire I found and the mystery wires all have plugs with resistors on them:

Center: White wire with a red tracer and a black wire these go hot when you push the center ballast button
??????: White wire with a blue tracer and a black wire these do nothing when you push the center ballast button
Port: White wire with a yellow tracer and a black wire these go hot when you push the port ballast button
?????: White wire with a purple tracer and a black wire these do nothing when you push the port ballast button
Starboard: White wire with a green tracer and a black wire these go hot when you push the starboard ballast button
?????: White wire with a orange tracer and a black wire these do nothing when you push the port ballast button

I assume the mystery wires are to reverse the pump but I cant seem to figure out what triggers them. Thanks for the help in advance.

Push and hold the buttons until they start to blink. That will signify emptying.

      Thanks

Is there anything wrong with this plan:
use the factory controls to trigger a relay to run the pumps (ballest puppy). mount the pumps to the alumn.bracket the supports the seat back and the pilon. Put 3) 1" through hull fittings with ball valves supplied by WakeMakers on the bottom of the hull. Run 1" lines from the valves to the pumps, then from the pumps to the bottom of the sacs. Run 1" lines from the top of the sacs to 1" through hull fittings for the vents on the side of the boat. Why are there 2 fittings on the top of the sacs?

I believe the two fitting are to give you more options when filling and empting, especially if you are using and external pump.

I don't know the 226 but why can't you splice inline with the factory ballast system? Overflow of factory to sack then from sack to overflow.

You will need 6 relays total. One for each pump's emptying and filling operation. Make sure you get relays with diodes in them or else you cause a voltage spike through your dash for a split second when you turn the pumps off. I just upgraded the ballast on my 2003 210 which uses the factory keypad to operate the impeller pumps. Many others have accomplished this successfully as well. Make sure you fuse the hot side of each relay based on the pump manufacturer's recommendation.

As mentioned earlier, push and hold the buttons for the emptying operation.

Do you have a part number for the Relays you used? Or one that I should use? Good catch on the 6 relays thanks

These are the relays I used: http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/118/909/=iv0qpc

                  I used these fuses: http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/118/924/=iv117i

                  In these holders: http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/118/924/=iv10yb

My boat didn't have any ballast from the factory. I wired the relays to be controlled from the factory push buttons by tapping into the wires that came out of the factory relay box (behind the driver kick panel in my boat). I fabricated an aluminum mount for my ballast puppies and the relays and mounted it in the forward part of both rear compartments. I have the belly and starboard pump in the starboard compartment, and the port and misting system pump in the port compartment. I drilled a 1" thru-hull to fill and drain each ballast pump.

                  Heres some pictures.....

Looks like my links to the parts isn't working.....

                      go to www.mcmaster.com

                      (6) relays: 9672K44
                      (3) inline fuse holders: 8110K4
                      (1) pack of 25A fuses: 7460K48

The misting system was my idea to help keep the wife and kid cool on hot summer days..... http://www.overtons.com/modperl/prod...g&merchID=4005

It has (4) small nozzles that I put on my tower (I have an over the tower bimini top) that "mist" water when turned on. I wired it to the shower keypad switch. It works ok.... but tends to be a little more "wet" that what I would have liked.

CA: that is a good looking setup!

Here are the relays I used: http://www.delcity.net/store/Relay-w...de/p_73578.a_1

I also got the pre-wired relay plugs to make things easier: http://www.delcity.net/store/Pre!Wir...ss/p_72562.a_1

I did something similar to what CA did above, however I made 2 aluminum mounting brackets and attached them to the bolts that stick through the hull on the 210 for the swim platform. I made a little divider out of the carpeted material that CC puts on top of the hard tanks to hide the pumps and dampen some of the pump noise. It also helps to protect the pumps from the fat sac expanding into them. I bought a small relay box and that houses all of my electrical stuff and mounted that behind the rear seat.

I am a little confused on how to wire up the relays. I have attached a drawing and someone show how to make the pumps go foward from one realy and reverse from the other?

What you're missing is the 87a terminal on the relays. When the relay is not energized, that provides the ground for the pump while the energized realy provides the positive. Here is the hand-drawn sketch that I made when doing my wiring. Sorry it's pretty messy, I don't have time to clean it up right now but can later if you need it. BTW- this is on a 2004 210. I assume the wire colors would be the same on your 2003, but you need to verify that with a voltmeter.
