Check Engine Light stays on for longer than normal?

I just got a used 2007 Super Air and the Check Engine Light come on at idle and stays on above 1200 rpms for maybe 5 seconds before it goes off.
I used to have a 2003, and it would always go out at or before 1200 rpms.

I'm not even sure if the Check Engine Light in the 2007 is related to rpms?

Is it normal for it to be on at idle? and stay on for a few seconds once underway?

sorry, just saw your post.

From your description, it sound like you are speaking of the small red v-drive pressure light that is supposed to go off after 1200 rpm. The check engine light is usually a larger red light. The v-drive light will always be on at idle and usually goes out by 1200 rpm.

If it is the v-drive light that is staying on, your v-drive may be low on oil. That is the most common cause of the light staying on followed by failure of the pressure sensor or wiring.

I looked in more detail and the light doesn't actually say anything about 1200 rpm's.
It's the same size and location as my 2003, but this one appears to be just a check engine light?
It's the large red light between guages.
There is no other small red light anywhere that I can see

I've check the v-drive oil anyway, but it's fine.

I think I was so used to the red light on my '03 on at idle and go out once underway I didn't give it much thought at first on the '07, but did start to notice it took an extra second or two to go off...
Seems like it has nothing to do with rpms?

So I guess my question is, what does the red light indicate?
And is it normal? Should I worry about it?

Just trying to get used to this boat...

yeah, the small 1200 rpm red light was only on boats with the Walters vdrive. your boat may have the PCM vdrive. I forget which year they went to those. If the check engine light is staying on, the computer may be putting out a code. hopefully somebody with an Excalibur will chime in soon.

I checked and this has a PCM vdrive, so I guess the light is definitely not related to rpms...

The engine is a ZR6 if that makes a difference?

The check engine light never stays on for long, only at idle and stays on for a second or two after I hit the throttle.
If I'm idling and not in gear the light is usually not on.

I guess I don't know if this is normal or not?

My check engine light (not the v drive light) stays on the whole day on the water yet there is absolutely nothing wrong with my engine so I wouldn't worry about it if I were you

Most likely a sending unit or switch that's bad. I have replaced 3 on my ZR6. Your dealer probably has it on the shelf.
