After a drive with friends around the lake, a friend was testing the boat and testing acceleration and cornering. After 10 mins we started hearing some strange noises and all of a sudden some white smoke (more like vapor) coming out of the exhaust. Nearly concurrently, an error message appeared on the screen saying the engine had overrated and to stop.
We opened the back hatch and the belt at the back was completely shredded. So I guess the engine was not being cooled any longer.
Fortunately we were 5 mins away from our boathouse and we slowly cruised back.
Our Nautique dealer will replace the belt under warranty (boat is 1 year old, we are the first owners) and they said PCM will pick up the cost - most probably a defective belt. They will still charge us for the call to our dock.
Do you think there is any risk we made permanent damage to the engine?
