Trail-rite 'tournament' trailer query

Hi everyone

just picked up my new boat and the trailer appears to be sitting very high, the gap approximately 180mm between the top on the wheels & the guards

it is a tandem trailer and on closer inspection the axles are located on the underside of the springs, is this the normal location?
my thoughts are is that the previous owner moved the axles from the top of the springs to the underside to gain more height clearence

before I just move them back to the top can anyone confirm that I am the right path?

Sure looks like it from the pics. On my 206 Eagle trailer, spring under the axle.

got under the trailer on the weekend to look at moving the axles to above the springs....

now I'm not sure if it is because of or it will change with the rocker springs when the weight distribution changes but if you look at the pic, it appears the axle will sit above the v in the chassis of the trailer?

my other query is have the axles been modified? would they normally be drop axles?

this seems to be the only modification / change from standard on either the boat or trailer

No doubt that the axle will be very close to the bottom of the boat and I am not sure how it would even be possible to load it that way. I doubt it was built that way but am not sure about the ride height.

here our some pics, looks the same as yours. I have 160mm from guard to the wheels. I rekon if you swap the axles and srings over, the boat skegs will hit the axles. Not saying mine is correct, but interested if you can swap the axles and springs over and still have enough room for the boat.

I think the solution will be either have drop axles fitted or move the exles to the top of the springs and have a drop section in the middle of the axle??

After a bit more searching.....it appears the drop axles have in fact been cut and re welded

this is what they should look like......


will update when the axles have been modified / replaced
