Either call Popeye or try a strap wrench. I got mine at Auto zone in the oil filter section. The strap is made of seatbelt material. Works well.

The plastic bowl on the bottom screws off, be carefull not to lose the o-ring, and put it back on tight when you put it back on. I guess this is what you are talking about.

I can't get mine off either if that makes you feel any better. I didn't want to break it so I let it go since there wasn't much caught in there. Let me know if you have any luck and what you did!

You or someone put it on to tight???
            I had the same problem...
Take a hair dryer and heat the top where the filter starts and heat it for a few mins...then turn it left hand..it well come just keep the heat on it..
            Good luck>>>>>>>>>

Well, since lifting handlebars or squeezing coke cans is not really my cup of tea, I've bought a nice tool and....it works. Can't make a foto of it in real( it's in the boat), made a foto of the "Verpackung, emballage"", (don't know the word in E...sorry)
Hope you recognize it on the foto, had to change luminosity etc.
