    BAD vibrations!

Kinda like the song, but me nor my boat are feeling good. Hit something this past weekend at a slow speed
and now I have a bad vibration in the boat as well as in the steering. There seems to be a knocking sound under the dash. My service dealer looked at it and found a little bend in one of the fin tips on the prop with no physical damage. Left the boat with the service dealer over the week and they took it out today with a confirmation of the severe vibration. They feel that there may be something more than just the prop. My question is, can a slight bend in a prop cause this vibration in the steering shaft? Also, I had a code pop up in fault screen under the spn column listed as 520800 with a fmi of 7. Anyone know what this means? Very frustrated because it was my first trip out in it.

short answer: Yes! I've dinged a couple of times and the vibrations are very obvious. Last time for the last boat the prop had been 'fixed' but was slightly (not visibly) off and caused vibrations at speed.

Absolutely yes. Even if the bend cant be seen by eye it could be bent enough to cause the vibration. Inboard props have zero tolerance if even one blade is only just a little off. Each blade must have the same thrust as it pushes the water past the rudder or it will shake the steering. Why would you not start with the known bad prop before looking for other problems that may not exist?

Having dinged two props in one day, thanks to lack of rain in northern TX, I agree the prop only has to be out slightly and the vibration will drive you nuts.

Thanks to all of you. Dealer got new prop on and will be taking it out tonight for testing. Fingers crossed! Code that came up on diagnostics that i spoke of on original post turned out to be a cam sensor. Likely due to vibration. We'll find out for sure tonight.

Situation fixed. Prop was the problem and is running like a gem. Thanks to all of you who responded to my post.
