    Perfect pass confusion

    Hey Guys,

So I'm trying to make use of the Digital Perfect Pass my 196 has, and when I put it into basic slalom mode and toggle to run 32.4, once it engages the boat according to the digital speedo on PP is around 30.4? How can that be as I would have thought its referencing the speed its displaying? No matter which speed I toggle it to in the 28-36 range, its running about 2 mph below where its supposed to. Any ideas of how I correct it? Do I need to use the rpm offset feature?

I have read the manual several times and its still not clear to me what I need to do.

    Thanks,

First of all try a system reset to re calibrate. If still down you can adjust the speed reading, but this is done in wakeboard mode. It tells you how to do it on page 7 in the wakeboard user manual for perfect pass. If you have digital pro you can change setting to wakeboard pro mode, alter speed reading then change back to digital pro.

    Hope this helps

I thought that version actually switched over to rpm control (after 26 mph) even though it shows speed. First step is to calibrate it with the GPS. If that fails, reset it and start from scratch with the "settings". ....after calibrating again of course.

Yup, I would say a calibration issue. Calibrating syncs up the engine RPM with the actual boat speed. I believe the higher (slalom) speed settings go off of Engine RPM, so Speed to RPM has to be synched ahead of time.

This compensates for variables such as propeller pitch etc.

turn the PP on and put it in slalom mode set to the speed you want, wait 10 seconds
push the menu key until the arrow highlights black then push the down arrow
raise the RPMs about 180-200, check result
(going off memory so I may have missed a step but you get the idea)

I do this a few times each year since I sometimes like to go a little faster and sometimes like to go a little slower. In slalom mode it only allows for 2mph changes which I find annoying.

You may also want to check the speed with a GPS, I use a free speedo calibrate app on my iphone
