04 SANTE not starting

Any luck? I seem to have the same problem. Good batteries, click but no crank.

This "click but no crank" if its your starter motor clicking then chances are your starter is seized. The click you hear is the solenoid activating.

Try giving the starter a tap with something while trying to crank. This won't fix it but if it starts when tapping it then you know the starter is seizing.

For me, the click isn't the solenoid. it's on the top of engine, possibly a relay? It's a little plastic box about 1"x1".

had the same on my 04 san last summer. It just clicked, no engagment. went and bought a gm ls1 starter, two bolts later and the boat started right up. I think I spent $125 for a new starter and the two bolts.

Yep I ordered a starter, hopefully ill have time to get it put on so I can still take it out a time or two (gotta love Florida weather)

yea i was considering that route since its a bit cheaper but couldnt pull myself to it. I figured that extra $$ will probably help me in the long run. Should be in this week.

sorry everyone if they were having the same issue and waiting for an answer. I changed the starter and it started instantly. I take it in brackish water from time to time to take it to some resturants with friends, hangout, etc.The inside area of the starter was terrible! Something to think about. I always spray in there with the hose but from now on ill spend more time.

You need to do some trouble shooting here. I notice you have gone through the first steps by checking fuses and making sure the boat is in neutral so now what? No you need to make sure that current is flowing to the starter. You need someone to help you with this task and a multimeter. While you press the start button, someone else needs to check if current is flowing from the battery to the starter and from the switch to the selenoid. If this checks, your starter needs to be replaced or the selenoid. You can also bridge the selenoid with a piece of wire but only if you feel confident that you understand how the current flows. Bridging the selenoid eliminates the need for you to push on the start button. Don't do this unless you understand the current flow so you don't fry something else by bridging current. It sounds like a starter or the solenoid, assuming your batteries are healthy. Two things need to be stated here: First, when arcing the solenoid, you should be absolutely sure there are no fumes. Although rare, this could be a fire hazard. Also, I would Recommend a MARINE starter. We are all on budgets, but one spark from a car starter could be all it takes. Not to mention that an insurance company might deny a claim if it is found to have a non-marine starter that caused a fire. (I know that the chance is small, but I am a fireman, and know these things DO happen.) Be safe and good luck getting back on the water!
