Rust in Port Manifold of 1999 SNOB GT-40

Upon winterizing our boat tonight, I noticed (what seems to be) an unusual amount of rust coming out of the port side manifold of our GT-40. In years past, I have noticed more rust-colored water, but never have noticed much for small pieces of rust coming out with the water as I did tonight. Anyone else have this issue? Is it a problem that I need to have checked any further? Thanks for any input!

How good do you winterize? Do you fill with antifreeze or just empty the water? Usually rust is caused by water being drained and air getting into the system e.g if you take your pump off then sir can get into the engine via the open pump pipes etc. This will then cause build up of rust which after use will then come away. I have had the same issue with my 01 san gt40.
    Hope this helps

Hyparks, thanks for the input. Yeah, in the past, I have only drained the water without using antifreeze as I have a heated/insulated garage that doesn't drop below 50 deg. I figured it would be better to drain the water, rather than let the water sit in the engine block and manifolds for the off-season. Would I be better off keeping the water in the engine, or just suck in the antifreeze regardless just for the anti-corosion effect? I would rather not use the antifreeze if I can get away from it just from the pure PITA factor. Thanks again for the response.

I have done the antifreeze this year. I owned my old mastercraft for around 5 years and only ever drained the water with no problems. It's a choice only you can make I'm afraid.
        Good luck
