Replacing carpet with Seadek in 2002 SANTE

I'm in the middle of a big overhaul on my boat and while it's all torn apart I was thinking about ripping the carpet up and having the raw fiberglass sprayed with white gel coat then coming back over it with grey Seadek. I made a quick template out of some cardboard, it's nowhere near exact but will give you an idea of the places I want to do. What do you guys think?

Anyone have any experience with spraying gel coat?

Please keep up posted on how you make out. I've wondered if this sort of idea is possible and/or affordable? Just out of curiosity why the overhaul and what all are you doing for the overhaul? Please post more pics when you get a chance.

This will be the first one without gelcoat floor being done that I am aware of. I look forward to seeing the results!!

you'll need to spend some "quality time" with the fiberglass on the floor to get good results with your gelcoat finish.
Grant West is doing a similar project on his Air, probably the same year as your SAN. I don't think he's posted that project here, have a look @ WW.

Brian Wow that looks great! Is it real teak or one of the "faux teak/foam" products? Did you do any work to the floor underneath before it was installed?

Wasnt my boat looked at buying it from memory it was a very thin layer of teak looked very good and well done

Yes very interested in the overhaul as well! Found a killer deal on a 2000 SAN without awful interior that I am thinking about doing an overhaul on.

I know this might sound cheesy...but could Seadek be installed over the carpet? I have thought about this once or twice when I have been reading these threads so I thought I would throw it out there. Probably wouldn't work but sometimes the easiest solution is dismissed outright without any consideration. Thanks for any feedback. -Marc

No on over the carpet.

Just a thought on gel coating the floor for this. There really isn't a need to do the whole thing so you could get the pieces cut and lay them out to mark the gaps. Once the gaps are marked they could be prepped, primed and gelcoated and once the sea deck is down no one would ever know the whole floor wasn't gelled. This could even be done with brush or roller since the lines aren't going to be more than a inch wide.

I'm considering doing to same thing. A few thing you may want to throw in while you're at it.

1) cut center locker so that you can lift with clamshell seat down
2) cut and glass the bottom portion of the clamshell to the floor

I'm pretty sure the later model old 210s (03-05) have both of these features.

That might be my biggest gripe with my 2002 SAN - can you please get up so I can get at my ballast valve? Terrible design.

I'll never understand why they made that change to the ski locker. There is no interference with the passenger seat in my 99 when you lift the ski locker. Maybe the thinking was they'd make it bigger so you could easily get a wakeboard down there if it didn't have ballast tanks? Still seems dumb to me.
