Oh, I don't know, maybe use what the manual says? 20w50 is recommended below 32 degrees F, 30w, from 32 to 50 degrees, and 40w, above 50 degrees.
I use Valvoline VR-1 40W oil, part number 229. It has a high level of zinc and phosphorus a non roller cam engine needs. I also use a Motorcraft FL1-A oil filter. The oil filter you can get at Walmart, the oil will be more difficult to find. The high levels of zinc and phosphorus are hard on catalytic converters, so it is hard to find the oil.

Valvoline VR1 40wt for the GT40, check your local Napa dealer they should stock it or be able to order it for you.2005 Ski Nautique 206 SE, Acme 422, PP SG 8.0, ND Tower

jumping in on this thread,
I just brought home my first nautique. 2002 super air team edition. I found every manual except the main one. It has the Excalibur 330. Which oil and filter for it?
Thanks

JK,
Should have a remote filter, which uses a Ford FL1A (motorcraft)
15w-40 for the oil, typically labelled "Diesel" oil
The manual you are missing should be available online in the reference section here, CCFan or the Correct Craft site.

Theres nothing different in regards to oil between your previous '89 with and your '01. Both use flat tappet Ford 351 Windsors. I would take all oil recommendations listed in the manual with a grain of salt... a lot has changed in the 10+ years since it was written. Zinc and Phos (both required in healthy amounts in flat tappet engines) have been reduced significantly in most mainstream oils- especially those formulated for diesels. Multiweight oils also have improved significantly. My 2 choices are Valvoline VR1 20w50 and Mobil1 15w50.***
*** While all weights of VR1 are high in zinc+phos you need, not all weights of M1 are... stick with the 15w50 if you go that route.
To the poster inquiring about what oil to use in their Excal, the options are pretty wide open. That is a roller cam motor and is pretty oil tolerant. Anything in the 15w40 range would be fine... a few of my favorites are Mobil1, Castrol GTX and Chevron Delo.1990 Ski Nautique

Regardless, synthetic is just plain better than dino oil, so I would (and do) use it in most of my vehicles. For flat tappet cam motors, you still need to be very careful about selecting an oil with ZDDP, which M1 15w50 has plenty of.

just to clear this up, PCM used to say do not use synthetic. now the manual says you can use it, but it doesn't do anything to extend the oil change interval. I'm quite disappointed in PCM for making it tough to get legit manuals for older boats, but i managed to find them all(no pn does not have them all)

1. Not recommending you use synthetic
2. Recommending you not use synthetic
I know PCM has said #1 (which equates to saying that dino is fine)... cant find any record of them saying #2, though I havent looked hard. Theyre certainly not saying that now.
Either way, synthetic is fine to run in any PCM engine that Im aware of... though the previous statement regarding zinc/phos with the flat tappets still holds.1990 Ski Nautique
