    impeller removal

how easy, quick, what exact tools do I need to replace an impeller on a gt40 fuel inj.? I injested something and the temp gauge shot up to over 200, ran it backwards etc. finally shot through the system? since the temp ran back down. But during the day it would jump to 200degrees and then when I opened it up, it would clear out and lower, at idle it rises somewhat? Is my impeller shot, I have an extra one that I was going to install this spring, but didnt....so, whats it going to take to do it on a early sunday morning, tools, tricks, easier ways etc.
do I need to replace the thermostat to?
    thanks

    RE: impeller removal

It's really easy. Just 2 socket wrench sizes needed. Should take 10 minutes. Do a search on this board and you should come up with plenty of answers.

impeller change out! Mothers Day Fiasco!

took 30 mins max. Easiest job on the boat yet. for anyone ready to do this for the upcoming season:

7/16 open or closed end wrench
1/2 inch open or closed end wrench
        flat head screw driver

I took the hoses off the pump, unbolted the pump with the 1/2 wrench, opened the pump with the 7/16 wrench, popped the impeller and gasket in, tightened it back up, etc. etc. Done without removing anything other than the top engine shield........

launch the boat, head out on the lakes............honey, why is the red light on?what the heck.....open the hatch, I am taking on water like its the SS Minow, aka Gilligan's Island. Yes, I am that old. I realized I didnt tighten one of the hose clamps to the pump and it was gushing water into the boat. yikes....quickly connnect the hose clamp, and wait till the bilge pump empties.....still waiting.....and waiting.....boat went into limp mode? bilge pump is still working but not very fast, so I mess with some breakers under the dash, click, boat is dead, all power cuts off, this is with my wife and kids and another family with there kids...DAD are we going to sink, DAD are we going to sink, Hey Mr. D, are we going to sink........needless to say we get towed in by some I/O guy who makes a comment on getting a real boat.... Needless to say the boat was finally started, bilge ran and emptied everything out and it finally ran at 150degress or so the rest of the day!!

Wow Mike....bummer! Of course this would never have happened if it was just you and the wife in the boat Yellow_Flash_Colorz:

I am curious though, how did this UFO (Unidentified Floating Object) get past the water filter screen to cause the impeller problem in the first place?

PS: DYI and don't give up! Tell your wife you're training to be an inboard mechanic... or something Yellow_Flash_Colorz:
