    What pitch Prop?

I currently have a 94 Sport with the 5.8 PCM Pro boss, carb. When I take off the boat is a little slow out of the hole. I currently have a 3 blade 14 pitch prop that turns 3100 rpm at a 3600ft elevation. My question is this, are the rpms normal or should they be higher. I have thought about going down to a 13 pitch?
    any suggestions

    RE: What pitch Prop?

If that is wide open throttle rpm you are very low. It should be around 5000 wot. I would consult your manual or your dealer for the prop it came with. I have a friend with a 94 sport with the pro boss and he turns about 4800-4900 rpms. He changed to four blade but his rpms stayed the same.

83sn2001 is right on. All of these nautiques run at
      4800 tp 5000 rpm WOT. 3600 on a 94 Ski Nautique
should be a comfortable waterskiing speed of 34-36 mph.
Unless your prop is way way different than stock, I wouldn't
think that would bring the RPMs down so low.

With the elevation what is you wot rpm? Because if you ran the boat with that prop at sea level it would bounce off the rev limiter. Change the pitch 1" equals to 200 rpm at wot, 1/4" change in dia equals 200 rpm. aalso you may have to rejet the carb and other parts changed to compensate for elevation changes. But make sure your tach is accurate before you make any changes.
