Trailer swivel jack is very hard to turn

Last year the Jack on my trailer was very squeeky when cranking up off the hitch and I oiled the post with WD40. -- It did not help much --

After pulling the boat out of storage the Jack has been almost impossible to get that final crank to get it off the hitch. The Jack is 3 years old.

Has anybody greased their Jack to get it to operate smoother? Where did you put the grease??

Any ideas.

Mine has a standard nipple for a grease gun. Not sure if they all do or not.

I have the same problem with no ability to grease my jack stand so I am in the middle of replacing it. The problem is getting the old one off. Looks like it is time to cut metal.

Not sure if mine has a grease fitting. I will check tonight. If not I may be following Blue Ski Yellow_Flash_Colorz: I shouldn't need the metal cutter to get it off because it is only 3 years old but you never know!

I find the workouts great for wakeboarding, it really builds up your shoulders and such, I am contemplating on finding a hydraulic one? push a button and the thing lifts the boat of the hitch, or lowers it etc. etc. any one have one of these things? Its gotta be waterproof or something? I greased mine really good and its still hard to move.

No grease fittings

The Jack is from Bulldog and I was able to get the top off to look at the gears. The gears are well greased but showing some wear from the hard turning.

I will try to work the grease onto the shaft where it is binding and see how that works.

Before I replace the Jack I was wondering what others have used, Fulton, Bulldog? The jack that I have is rated for 1000 lbs of tongue weight. If I get a 1500 lb rated jack will it work easier?

Mike-d -- I like your attitude <grin> I have been researching the jack's and have not come across an electric or hydraulic version.

We replaced the jack on my brother's Prestige trailer with a Fulton 1500lbs. I am going the same way, $50 vs. $110 on a trailer (Ramlin) that is starting to show it's age and he said his boat is much easier to manuver now. I will put the $60 towards a Boatmate trailer in the next few years.

WD-40 is essentially DMSO. It is a great solvent but a lousy lubricant. You should be able to bebuild the jack It comes apart when you pull the handle off and then the little clip below the handle. It all drops out the bottom. It is really simple and a good coat of waterptroof axel grease keeps it turniung for years.
