I put a "loop" in the overflow / vent line by feeding the hose up under the gunwhale and back down to the thru-hull. Haven't noticed any loss while surfing. To prevent bag collapse and the vaccum issue on the hard tank I tied some twine between the sac fitting and the hatch hinge hardware to keep an open air route through the sac on the empty cycle. I also used the rearward most of the vent fitting (nearest the fill fitting) to keep the air route through the sac as short as possible.
