How can I force my Faria Gateway to re-acquire correct engine hours from the ECM?

I bought my first Nautique 3 years ago and my family and I have had a blast with it. It is a 2003 Nautique 206 Limited and overall it has been fantastic. I have one nagging issue and I’d like to ask some of the experts on the forum for their solution ideas.

My problem is this: My Faria in-dash LCD display engine hour meter read about 550 total hours last summer. One day I noticed that the engine hours readout on my Faria gauges had jumped to over 6,000 hours which is definitely not correct. During my fall service I used an engine diagnostic computer to directly read the engine hours off the engine computer and it reported 575 hours (correct). I am trying to figure out how to force the gateway to re-acquire the correct engine hours from the ECM?

Of course in researching this problem I have re-discovered what you all certainly know… Faria won’t even try to fix it, and Correct Craft says they don’t know how to fix it. Buying a new gateway box for over $800 just for this annoying little problem is not the answer. Do any of you technical experts have solution ideas?

Strange issue, first I have ever heard of that happening.
Have you started with the easy things, disconnect the battery by removing the terminal?
Verified all plugs in the Gateway are fully inserted and making a solid connection?
Removing all wires from Gateway and re-connecting?

I removed the unit to send it out for diagnostics at Faria. Thats when I found out that they will not repair CC/Nautique gateway boxes and even if they do repair them the flat fate is $400. If the weather is a little warmer this weekend i will put the battery and the gateway box back in the boat and see what happens.

OK... So it is spring now and I have reinstalled the gateway box in the boat after having it out all winter. Unfortunately, my dash display is still reading 6040.2 hours. The correct engine hours from the engine computer is 578.7 hours. Pretty much all of my other features and functions are working properly. was hoping that by removing the unit for a few months I could get it to re-acquire the engine hours from the engine computer. Apparently not. This is an annoyance, but certainly not something that is worth spending >$800 on a new gateway box to fix. DOes anyone know if....

There is some kind of master reset button for the gateway box? I think it will be much easier to keep track of my engine hours with it reset to 0 than having an offset of 5,461.5 hours!

Also... when reinstalling, I found a strange sensor or through hul sensor connection which is plugged into the gateway but is not physically connected to anything on the boat,it is just loose in the back ski locker. Can anyone help me identify it?

looks like the air temp sensor, its the same sensor used for water temp as well.

Air temp sensor seems correct.

In regards to your engine hour issue. The engine computer (ECM) reports the hours to the gateway, a correct reading on the engine diagnostic computer does not necessarily mean your ECM is sending the right data to the gateway. Its odd, but it happened to me on my 07' the ECM read the correct hours on the diagnostic computer, but nothing on the gateway. It ended up being the ECM for us.

Luckily, the ECM is cheaper than a gateway, it might be worth a try. Perhaps your dealer could swap it to see if the ECM is the issue?

You're not the only one! I have around 680 hours on my 2003 SAN and my gauges read 6900. I just chalked it up as a lost cause. Hope you have better luck!

Same issue.. no fix

I have been trying to fix this problem on my 03 SANTE.. 570 hours, now reading 6700 something hours.. Very annyoing and no gaurantee that replacing the GW will fix. Faria stated that even if the GW is replaced their might be a grounding problem somewhere which is causing the issue.

Anyone figured this out yet?

Any updates to this thread? We have a 2003 SN 196 which reads a 1000+ too many hrs according to the ECU; any way to subtract hrs?
