    vinyl and boat care questions

    I have the following products:
    303 Cleaner
    303 Protectant
    Babes Seat soap
    BTS protectant
    Babes Spot Solver
    Meguiars Flagship Marine spray wax

My question: I usually clean the vinyl with 303 cleaner or babes seat soap then follow-up with 303 protectant. Should I be using a conditioner, like boat bling condition sauce before applying the 303 Protectant

if you had these products for your boat how what order would you apply
    thanks for feedback

I use BTS Protectant on the hull and apply three coats. The boat gets wiped down after each use and the BTS works well to keep the water spots and lake scum off. I used to spray the boat with Ducky after each use but don't have to with the BTS.
For the vinyl I use the 3m cleaner & restorer (it has conditioner in it) and then 303 Protectant.

I have always used just good old soap and water to wash the vinyl. I condition the seats once a year with Maguires leather conditioner.... You just massage it into the seats like you massaging your woman.... ok, maybe a little differently..
In the unlikely event I get a little mildew, I use (hold on to your hat), Tilex. I just dilute it a little, spray it on, then afterwords, I flood the area, especially the seams, with a lot of water, then soap and water again to flush away the remainder. I have never had an issue with the seems degrading by using this procedure. When I say flood the area, I mean take the nozzle off, and use a steady flow.... I even put the hose end right on the seem line and follow it to flush good.

My vinyl is cleaned with warm water and a mild detergent. Same with the carpet. I use Vinylex on the vinyl. After I wipe down, I wait about 10 minutes and go back and buff the vinyl with a clean, soft rag. Brings out a nice shine and gets rid of any residue that can cause it to feel greasy.

On the hull, mild soap and water. Follow up with carnuba wax. I tried a few coats of BTS last year and was not impressed with its longevity versus a good waxing. I'll hit the hull with Babe"s boat bright about once per month after wipe down.

I bought a boat basically online, and it looked pretty good in the pics. When I picked it up I was pretty disappointed in the vinyl interior, I am a pretty fussy guy and I was considering not inviting friends to go out with us because i was so embarrassed! It was supposed to be white and it was greyish-brown! I read a bunch of stuff online and decided to purchase the complete line of babes boat care products, brushes and all! It is supposed to be pretty harmless to your vinyl in the long term and I think it works fantastically. The website says that the babes seat soap is not for "restorative" purposes, but was well worth the try. It did require some elbow grease, and the babes vinyl brush works well, all told it took maybe two solid days and one and a bit of the second squirt bottle of seat soap to get my vinyl literally as clean as the day it was new! I am completely pleased with their seat soap and can proudly drive my boat around the lake now, and swear it will never get that dirty in MY boathouse! I also use their seat saver product after the seat soap. Here are some before and after pics.
          Awesome stuff!

Wow I gotta get some of that seat soap. I love all of the Babe's products I have tried so far.

Hey Prairiedawg, do you have any pics of the outside of your boat? That green that was on the cover of the 08 sales brochure has always been my favorite color on a 210/230 and it kills me that they discontinued it. I can't imagine there are too many of that color out there but that is what I will be searching for in a few years. Maybe the timing will work out and I will have to take a road trip to Saskatchewan.... Sorry I got off topic.

Haha, yeah, I've already had some interest in the boat from some of my neighbours at the lake! Maybe it's because of the green and white colours like our football team the Roughriders!
The only pics I have on my phone are in the garage, and the color is hard to see, can't wait to get out there this spring!

Prairie- if you could talk about the steps you took to get that result it would be useful for many on this site.

Hey, so mostly what it took was elbow grease. I researched a while online, and concluded that many people liked Babes products, and it sounded like all of their products-even if they may not work(they say that the seat soap is not a restorative product) will not do any irreparable harm. I purchased the complete line of products from their website, including the "bucket of Babe's" and all of the scrub brushes. When I received the product, the first thing I did was get to work with the Spray bottle of seat soap and the upholstery brush. Spray it on, scrub in circles, straight lines, opposite ways, etc. The stuff that sprayed on starts to clean the vinyl and gets dirty looking. Wipe it off( and rub some more) with a micro fibre cloth. Repeat at least once more, usually twice. After awhile you get an idea of how much and how long to scrub. Eventually you get a clean spot that looks like new, and the spot beside it looks filthy! It takes time, patience and elbow grease. I started with only one 16 oz bottle of the stuff, so I was very sparing with it at first. I did the entire interior and 1/3 of the sun deck with the first bottle and still had a little left. When I bought more product I was very liberal with it and it seems like the more you use the better it works. Total time for my interior was around 2 solid days. I also used the smaller detail brush once in awhile to get into the nooks and cranny's. lots of work, but worth it in the end. Let me know if you have any questions. Oh yeah, followed the cleaning with the Babe's seat saver, works well, not greasy or slippery.

The brushes have very stiff bristles, but lots of them, so it's not like you are just grinding away on one spot, it spreads the pressure out over the brush face. I admit when I received the brushes in the mail that they seemed too stiff, but several hours later....... Haha they seem about right!
