    2000 SAN problems

Ok here are my problems. So I hope someone can help.

last summer I bought a boat that supposedly didn't have any problems and has less then 250 hours on it and after two uses I ended up having these problems... Go figure..

    1. On my dash I have up and down buttons for my engine cover, well if I push the up button it will raise it and won't stop itself. To the point I have to turn the boat completely off by using the battery switch. It also does it when I want to lower the engine cover. I'm thinking I can rule out that the buttons are not getting stuck bc I can keep pressing them and it won't solve anything till I turn the whole boat off.

    2. Why is it I can turn my boat off by the battery switch then flip it where it runs on both battery's and walk over without putting in my pass code and start my engine? *** the funny thing is when I do that, I can put it in drive or reverse and it runs but as soon as I put it in neutral I can hear the boat grinding in the back like the starter is trying to kick the boat over again.. At that point I can then put in my pass code and it stops... Wtf? Lol

    3. Why is it when I try to turn off the engine by hitting the stop button it won't do anything and I have to go back where my battery switch is and either turn the switch completely off "if that will work" if not I have to pull the fuse next to the switch..

    HELP!!

And the closes nautique dealer is 7hrs away!

    hi slater,

the keypads are prone to failure. mine started to play up after winterizing this year - some buttons worked, some didn't. i dryed it on the radiator and it started to work again. i think moisture gets in and the contacts corrode. the pad is easy to remove once the dash if off. the dash is also easy to remove. whitelake sell new kepads as well. not cheap but may solve your problem.

    good luck,

    d.

Thanks for getting back to me so soon. I still don't have a clue about problem number 3, hoping someone else has had this problem.

With hours that low on a boat from 2000, I bet your keypad is corroded from sitting. That could be issue #3 also...

This may or may not help but I was in the same position last summer. Although I do not have the keypad (I have an actual key ignition) my boat was doing the same thing. After countless troubleshooting, and a new ignition installation (that didn't fix it) I figured out that while running the halogen lights on my tower, the lights power wire heated up and melted to another wire at the switch panel area where all of the wires come together which was causing it to have power 24/7 and stay running. I am unsure if this is your problem but it may be worth a try. I would assume this may have something to do with your engine hatch switch having continuous power as well. Either way for your boat to stay running you must have some sort of "short" somewhere. Hope this helps and please let us know what the issue was once it is fixed! Good luck

my biggest keypad issue was number three. stop button would do nothing so i had to use the battery/bilge switch but that always worked. are you saying that in some cases that doesn't kill the engine?

I am saying that. There is a fuse next to my battery switch and towards the end of the summer I was having to pull that fuse. Now not every single time but It did happen a few times.
And yes I would have the battery switch on off and my engine would still be going till I pull that fuse

that is odd. the battery switch is maybe faulty as well. i'm no expert but an auto electrician might be the next thing to try. new (old) boat and teething issues can be extremely frustrating. i ended up having to replace the engine a few weeks after i bought my SAN!

                sorry bro.
