Recently picked up a 96 with the chevy engine in it. Owner was an old man whos kids handled the boat. Boat had the one way valve and another screw on filter on it between the rear manifolds. I'd like to remove these and would like to see how you have your manifolds connected PLEASE.

Is it possible you have the Apex 5.7? I didn't think it was offered in 96 but maybe it was. Some pics of what you have might help because most of us would expect to find a small block Ford variant under the "hood" of a 96 SN. Here is a link to the engines available in 98 as I couldn't find that part of the brochure for 96 or 97.

The 96 Proski engine was a 275HP 350 Chev in 94-95 it was the the Ford Based 351 with PCM Throttle Body fuel Injection (TBI).
If the screw on filter you are talking about is the one in your second picture. That is the RAW water strainer that is connected on one side to the water pickup on the bottom of the hull. The other side then normally connects to the transmission cooler. Not sure of the location of the cooler on the 96 Pro Ski. It looks like a big tube with hydraulic lines that run back to the transmission. Take some pictures and we can more than likely point you in the right direction.Last edited by Lewy2001; 03-14-2013, 07:07 AM.

You might be able to find your answer here: http://www.planetnautique.com/Correc...Msvcmanual.pdf
My boat is still wrapped up for the winter and it's a V-drive so the plumbing might not be the same anyways. PCM likely ran the same cooling system for the Ford and Chevy small blocks so anybody with a direct drive Nautique around the same vintage should be able to help you out.Shawn

Thanks Shawn, I have that manual but the picture shows the strainer back there, but the pic is too grainy/black n white and I need detail just on how the hoses go.
Feel like a pest but there has to be an easy answer.... I've messed with it quite a bit and don't see how it can work, but again, I'm sure when I find someone with that same setup their picture will make it clear as day

I found these on google image and they refreshed my memory and might be able to help you. That is about how I remember it being routed on my 91 Sport with a Ford 351. I think the pickup hose routes through the bilge to the strainer on the starboard side and then back down through the bilge over to the port side. It's been a while since I have looked at one of these set ups though so I could be wrong as it is tough to tell from these pics.
I have seen the strainer "mounted" in both of these spots so I would go with whatever gives you the least restricting route.
If I make it to my brothers shop soon I will take some close up pics of the cooling system on our 91 as it should be about the same.Shawn

The wire reinforced water hose should run from the intake in the hull, to the strainer, to the trans cooler, to the intake side of the raw water pump. In the pic your Strainer is about where you will normally find it, from there hose should run over top of trans/bell housing to the trans cooler. Is it possible someone cut a section of the hose to disconnect it for winterizing? Possibly making it too short too work now??
