Taking the cap off does not matter at all. Engine crankcases are not sealed. There is a PCV (positive Crankcase Ventilation hose that connects to the intake manifold that sucks air and fumes out into the engine and burns them. There needs to be an open hole to the atmosphere to let air back in. This is typically the hose from the valve cover to
the air intake screen/filter/flame arrester.

The only thing I could think of better would be to have a separator only device with a vacuum connection w/a hose running into my garage and directly connected to my yellow jacket vacuum pump. Better yet, maybe a small propane tank w/a 3-way valve at the top and pull a full vacuum in advance. I think that would be enough to pull 5 qts of oil.
