LED Marker Light For Guide Post

A while back we took hauled the boat out to the river at night. I drove behind my buddy who was hauling and got a ways back a few times for whatever reason. It occured to me that on a dark highway all you could really see of the boat from behind was the trailer lights that are all below the boat. In general, most large trailers have marker lights all over the place to give an accurate depiction of their size. The lights and marker reflectors do this OK, but they don't show where the fenders and guide posts end.

IDEA- I have seen alot of nice LED products as of late and figured there must be one that could mount to the end of the galvanized tube and be wired into the running lights. I'd have to drill holes in the end of the guide PVC tube, but that seems pretty easy. Smallest I have seen so far is 2" in Dia, I'd like to find one that is very similar in DIA to the galvanized tube. Anybody got any ideas??

Basically just a marker light to show people where the limits of the boat is and tell them to stay the **** away.

Does'nt that thing spin? I think the wires would get all wound up, if I'm understanding you correctly, are you talking about the top of the guide post or the bottom where it sticks out to the side a little? Maybe there would be a way to mount them on a swivel fitting of some sort. ? Or maybe just some reflective tape wrapped around the top where the cap is showing, I got some at Autozone and put it on different parts of the trailer to make it stand out more.

Good idea on the tape, definately easier.

I was actually thinking of mounting the Light to the top of the metal pole that is stationary and drilling a clearance hole on the PVC tube to go over the light, that way the tube can still spin and move up and down when loading the boat.

My concern is that I have an all black boat on an all black trailer and it's just not all that visible at night, especially the fenders and the guide tubes. I just want it to be more imposing , we have alot alot of jackazz drivers in Cali and they tend to do really dumb things like cut in front of you and your trailer and hit the brakes, tailgate you and you can't see them behind the boat, drive really close along side you in high winds, etc.....

We had a guy pass us during the night, he was doing about 85, us about 70. It was right before we were gonna pass a truck and my buddy goes to pull out into the left lane and he corrects back as the guy was pulling a trailer with no lights on it. We ended up seeing him at the gas station down the road, 18-20 yr old kid with like 5 people in the cab. I told him his lights were out and he brushed it off, he had no idea we almost had a two trailer wreck. Been kind of overcautious since then, but the whole idea is to get to the lake and hurt myself on the rope, not on the highway.

        Flux,

Overton's sells LED Trailer Guide Indicator Lights (Part Number 71802) for $19.99. This may be what you are looking for.

        http://www.overtons.com/modperl/over...item_num=71802

I don't know how you will mount or wire them as the PVC guide post moves up/down and around.

You may want to try to put some reflecting tape around the cap of the PVC post. This part will not be obstructed by your guide pads and is the highest on the guide post.

        Good luck.
