I have just purchased my first boat and it is a 2003 SAN 226 LE. We are really happy with it so far but there is definately some items that need some attention. One item that I am trying to figure out is there is a small leak coming in the engine bildge area around what seems to be a thru hull speedo or some wheeled device?? I have not found any other related topics and would like to know if anyone has any advice. I will start with that question and see how this goes. I have some other servicing items I will be looking for advice on also. Thanks!!

Welcome to the forum, it's a great source of information and entertainment. From your description it sounds like the paddle wheel for your perfect pass speed control is leaking. Try this out:

Sounds like your PerfectPass Paddlewheel. You may need to remove the housing from the hull, add some 5200 sealant around the housing, and replace. May also be as simple as the O-ring. Thanks for the quick response! That sounds like what it is for sure! I will be in the engine bay first thing in the morning trying to check it out. Another question I have is if there is a way to check the shaft packing and the alignment to the v-drive? I have a good accountability on all the fluids and filters but I have not found a way to check a couple items such as the ones mentioned. Any and all information you might could pass on would be greatly appreciated!

Jeff is probably right on the money with that assessment. My experience with shaft alignment is that a correct craft dealer is best at this, and I believe they can even use a laser if i'm correct. Maybe someone else will chime in here. As fare as the packing, you should get somewhere around 8-10 drips a minute when idling in gear in the water, when viewed through the inspection hole. Any more than that and you might either need to to just slightly tighten the nut (be sure to replace the safety wire) or repack the stuffing. (basically a small diam. heavily waxed rope)
Welcome to the Nautique family!

Thank you for taking your time and responding! I will be looking into the items in the morning and hopefully will have it on the water to check the shaft packing next week sometime. I will let yall know what I find! Thanks again and I look forward to learning all about the nautique and the community that enjoys them so much! Always has been a dream to own one for myself!
