    moving battery on 95 supersport?

Has anyone attempted to move the battery to the 2003 stock location, which is recessed below the floor under the port rear seat. Id really like to move my battery to this location (but opposite side) because it takes up precious ballast space in the vdrive compartment. Is the floor hollow in this area, and it could it be accomplished by simply cutting out a hole in that location, or is there more to it?

Not trying to ba an ***, but why do you want to move it? I presume it's like mine in one of the compartments alongside the engine? You can still fit a 750 sac in there if you want. If you really want the room, you can just move the battery up on the shelf behind the rear seat.

    Good luck with it.

BTW: there is a thread where someone cut a hole in the floor and made a battery box like that. You've got to be careful not to cut your stringer and it really looked like a whole lot of work.

I'm sure it would be a lot of work. I want to move it because I have dual batteries and they are both pretty big deep cycle batteries. They won't fit on the shelf and with both batteries I can't fit a 750 in there very cleanly. I want to move one battery and that'll open up about 6-8 inches and accomodate my bag.

I'll look for that thread, thanks for the heads up

It took some digging but I think this might be the thread crobi is talking about.

I would definitely tread lightly if you try it. If you hit a stringer you could be in a lot of trouble. In my 99 I have a big battery on the shelf on the starboard side which has the actuator for the hatch and I can fill a 750 full. I think if you had one battery on each shelf on either side of the motor you should be fine to fill 750s if that is your goal? Having them recessed in the floor like the newer ones would be great but I wouldn't risk it on my boat.

On my 02 San my battery is located in the bow, center. Are they typically behind the rear seat even with factory hard tanks?

I'm in the process of doing this on my Excel. I have 2 levels, a wider one that holds the cradle and a smaller one alon the outside of the hull. To he an idea about what was under the floor I used a stud finder and then cut out a space slightly smaller than what found. Once the foam was dug out (that was much harder than i was thinking) and I knew exactly where things were I went back an trimmed the final opening. There was a wide primary stringer along the engine and then a thin secondary along the shelf. I went all the way to the hull and then foamed back up to the lowest level spot. I placed a cutting board on top of that to hold screws for the battery hold downs and then laid glass over everything.

Core Rider has a good write up with pics in the DIY section. I used all cloth no mat and epoxy so mine is thinner glass, I wasn't looking to hold the battery with the glass, the plate underneath will take care of that. In my case the starting battery went down about 3/4's of the way and the stereo batteries on the outside are almost flush. I'm going to make a raised lid to cover everything and hide all the wiring between the batteries, switches and charger.
