    FC Tower Question.

    Probably a very basic and dumb question, but here goes;
    On my 02 210 when I was lowering my tower to put the boat in the boat house last week, a spring came out of one side when the knob was released. The spring is all streched out and I had to snip it off. The knob will not tighten now. Can the spring be replaced by just puling it out and replacing with a new one? If so, I guess Nautique parts .com would have them?
    Thanks

    Hello there,

    I would suspect that it is not a spring that came out of the tower leg, rather the threads stripped out of the tower leg and and came out in one piece resembling a spring that is about the same diameter as the hole. I would expect that you are going to need to re-tap the tower leg for the next larger size bolt and get a new, larger bolt/knob assembly to work there.

    Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

      the knobs are held in place by some type of spring mechanism that keeps it flush against the bottom of the tower ... but what typically happens is the threads strip out that were cut into the leg that the knob screws into. then folks will tap it a size bigger and screw in a helicoil (a spring) that allows you to keep using the same knob. im guessing that what you might have seen come out was a helicoil someone already used to fix a stripped out tower leg? if so, you can just get another helicoil and screw it in, and keep on truckin
