If your impeller shredded, make sure to remove the t-state housing and check for blockage. Interestingly, though, on the GT-40, impeller bits seem to float upstream. Back flush the hoses past the raw water pump and check the pump side of the screen on the transmission cooler. Mark that pump housing orientation, make sure you get the little plate set up right so the screws are going through all of the holes, i.e., it's not just sandwiched in there, make absolutely sure you have your belts reinstalled properly and tensioned to about 1/4" of travel. Finally, as mentioned, check the sea strainer to make sure you aren't sucking air there.

Even if you catch it early, if you get enough heat in the pump, the impeller vanes can get hot enough to melt. You let it sit while you try to work out the problem, then you restart, and bits of the vanes get ripped off because they were stuck to the housing. Ask me how I know.

Good point about the Sea-**** being closed, there is valves (sea-cocks) for the ballast but there is also one for your water intake. Follow your water line back from the strainer to where it goes through the hull, valve should be there above the thru hull. Also run water from a bucket (as suggested) to see if you are drawing correctly, if water is drawing add a hose to the bucket and let it run a bit and see what the temp does while also checking for drips and leaks along the entire water intake system.

All of this seems to be pretty common. I guess I should have paid more attention to the pump when. Put it back on. The only problems with all of this is that that engin box on the v drive is so tight. There is very little room to do anything
