    GT-40 Starter Question

SNCB does not start, only clicks. I used a remote starter switch from the battery to the terminal on the starter that goes to the relay (yellow wire with red stripe). Sometimes I can hear a click, some times nothing, but starter never turns. Battery is putting out 12.47v.

before I spend $200+ for a new starter, do you think take starter is bad? Seems so to me. Where to get one?

    ETA - it is a 1997.

Take the battery to a parts store that has a load tester. Reading voltage with no load can give you a false condition of the battery. After your battery proves to be healthy, bypass the solenoid. This is what you do:

-Get a jumper cable that will reach from the battery to the starter.
-Connect the red clamp to the positive ternminal on the battery.
-find the terminal on the solenoid that has a thick guage wire going from solenoid to the starter.
-Take the other red clamp (from the jumper cable) and tap it to the terminal described above.

The starter should engage and spin as long you hold this connection. If it doesn't, your solenoid is probably bad. Normally I would say to check the wire going from the ignition to the solenoid, but you already did that.

New battery and fully charged. My BIL is coming over and we'll try that, however, I think we'll end up pulling the starter out. Not much room between the hull and the bottom of the GT-40 in a 97 SN. This one is going to be a PIA.

      Appreciate your reply.

The GT40 also has a power assist relay mounted just below the fuel pump and EEC relays but on the other side of the mounting plate. It is the same starter relay(solenoid) as the older Ford engines used it basically runs in series with the starter solenoid on the stater motor. Check all you connections on this relay as well. It is a PITA to get at, helps if you remove the engine cover to gain better access to the rear of the engine.
