excalibur 330 cut out & hard start

    Hi all.
I have a 2003 196 with the excalibur engine. It has always started first turn and never missed a beat. Yesterday for no reason while idling & waiting for a skier to get ready she cut out. I pushed the start on the keypad but all she did was crank over. After numerous attempts (maybe a minute) it started again but sounded as if it was flooded/over-fueled. I then revved it a few times & it cleared. It was the last ski of the day so we put it back on the trailer & went home. At home I cranked it over again & it started first turn. Has anybody had this happen before? Is there something i should check?
    Thanks. Graeme

Not had it happen but it sounds like something I've read about here a few times before, the early signs of fuel pump failure...but maybe check the fuel filter first?

          That's where I'd start too.

Checked cap & rotar last night & they looked good. Seen another post on this site with a similar problem & they say fuel pump relay/s. What do you think??

Fuel pump relays are common too and I almost said that....but that wouldn't result in the flooded fuel smell IMO.
