To repair the Tach or Speedo. I did this last May, hope I don't forget too much.

    Remove gauge from dash
Take the bezel off - try not to break it. Bezel is plastic and sonic welded on
Remove the face of the gauge, this is difficult since it is sonic welded. Use exacto and patience.
Dis-assemble the gauge by separating the 2 circuit board. There are 4 or 5 snap in spacer studs.
Remove the gray metal housing that holds the glass dial in place. There are several tabs that you need to bend straight from the back side of the circuit board.
The metal housing covers the ribbon cable at the base of the dial. You need to put a filler material between the ribbon cable and the metal housing so the ribbon cable presses tight at the base of the dial. I have used foam ArmorFlex Tape cut into 1/8" x 1/8" strip that is as long as the ribbon cable is wide. I also used a piece of weedeater poly line after the foam tape repair started to fade out.
With the filler material sandwiched between the metal housing and dial, press together and bend housing tabs over to secure the housing.
    Re-assemble.

I broke my bezel on one of the gauges...If anyone has an extra .. I'll pay postage.Click image for larger version

I am trying to understand the cause of gauge non-operation. Is it because of poor connection of the ribbon connector to the pc board? Looks like the fix puts pressure on the ribbon connector to get continuity, correct?
Some more commentary would be helpful.
Thanks for the photos and the instructions.

Dave You are correct. The filler material helps press the ribbon cable connector to the pc board. I repaired both the speedo & tach. Initially they were 100% but have since faded to 85-90%. They are still legible so I have not gone back in to add more filler.

I was thinking about putting in a precision star speedo, using the PP for RPM, and installing a stand alone hour meter below the throttle. I just got my boat and the gauges still work so I'm in no hurry, but I like the idea of a GPS speedometer and not having to rely on pick ups off of the back of the boat.

Late to the party here guys, but is there a way to recover the hours reading from a failed Teleflex and then have a new hourmeter (whatever type, brand) calibrated with the old reading to then have a fairly accurate hourmeter?
