Has anyone decided on electric over surge breaks on their trailers for the G23 and G25. Since most V8 trucks (gas powered), like my F-150 are at the upper limits of their tow capacity (but still within) it is the brakes which I am most concerned with. Since electric brakes tend to be more responsive and will not push against the truck while decelerating down hill, it seems to make more sense to me if I am not going to upgrade my tow vehicle. I know that they tend to need more maintenance, but the safety may override the PITA factor. I would appreciate any input that can give me some insight.

You will rerely find electric brakes on boat trailers due to the age old saying, "electricity and water do not mix". They do make electric brake kits for a boat but you will spend a ton on cash on them compared to the surge brakes. If your surge brakes are adjusted and maintained properly, they will work just fine. However, make sure you have the reverse bleed valve so when you back up the brakes do not engage. If you are that concerned with stopping power, then you should upgrade to a disc brake set up rather than drums. They are worth thier weight in gold and look pretty bitchin too.

I'm not sure if you meant electric over hydraulic or electric instead of hydraulic (surge). I'd never go electric instead of hydraulic on a boat...the chance of brake failure is too great for the submersed parts. But electric over hydraulic looks interesting:

I've seen discussions about wheather surge breaks are even legal since they aren't controllable from the cab. There are people making and using electric brakes on boat trailers without issues. It's personal preference, but I expect to see more of it since tow vehicles are equiped with controllers from the factory. The electric over hydraulic would be an expensive but easy retro fit, If you're starting new all electric would be cheaper. I'm seriously considering going electric on mine when I rehab it.

all boats in aus over 2000 kg have now by law electric hydraulic brakes....so you still have hydraulic disc brakes but are controlled by an electric actuator that can have the pressure adjusted in the cabin
I am changing my trailer over to this during this winter...this is a relatively cheap upgrade that joins the best of both worlds
