    Idle Issues 2004 SAN

Took the boat out today to finish building a rail. Boat sat for a bit while we finished driving in posts and what not. When we went to start her up it wouldn't crank like the battery was going dead. It would barley turn. Then it just started giving a click click click like it was dead....but all the gauges were lit up fine. After a few more tries it turned over and fired right up. As we sat there for about a minute it started making an awful racket from the engine compartment. Shut it down. Let it sit for a second. Started it up again and was running fine. Put it in gear and ran like a champ down the lake. No issues after 5 minutes of 20mph running. Went back to neutral after coming to a stop and the noise starts again. Its really hard to tell where its coming from but the weird thing is volts go down fast when clicking in to neutral. Low voltage flashes and everything resets on the dash when you put it back in gear. If you barley put it in gear everything works fine. The second you click back to neutral voltage down, gauges off, bump it in gear and everything is good. Any thoughts????

Alternator??? That's really odd. I'd check all battery cables positive and ground and battery switches too. The concern is the noise. (Scratching head)

sounds like the starter is staying engaged or powered when the shifter is placed in neutral, possibly the keypad, greyhill breaker box or bad starter relay on the engine.

Wow that sounds like a lot of possibilities. How can I diagnose this without part replacing.

Problem solved. Battery was bad. Popped in a new one and she's good to go.
