    2003 196 330 excalibur

    Hi again all.
2 weeks ago i posted a thread about my engine cutting out and having a hard start.. Well today it did not start at all. It has fuel presure but no spark. The cap and rotor are in good condition. Perhaps the coil or module? Also bridged pin 5 & 6 and then pin 7 but still no luck. Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Graeme

Do you have a timing light? If so, connect it to the coil lead and crank it. The firing should be 8 times normal (read fast) and perfect tempo. If not, it is probably the ignition module. I doubt the coil.

If you change the module, be sure to go back using the white paste from a computer shop and not the silicon sex lube that comes with the module.
arctic silver ceramique is the best for this service IIRC but any are better than silicon dielectric.

    Some edit notes:

    1. You can have that module checked at a good auto parts place. Try to find a machine with the heater but sounds like yours might test bad cold anyway.

    2. In the module, there is a low speed unit and a high speed unit. The change over is 400 rpm. I've always wanted to measure the starting rpms. On a boat they always seem to be slower. I was thinking if you could get your starting rpm up over 400 the high speed open loop unit might take over and the engine would fire. Only suggestion for this is a fully charged battery or carefully jumping it from a running engine putting out 14.5v.

      Thanks Airtool.
Back in business again. Had coil & module tested and they were ok. Relooked at the cap & rotor. The carbon pin in the center of the cap was worn & not making contact with the rotor. Could have just bent the rotor to make contact but fitted new ones & it started 1 st time again.
      Thanks for the help
