    Replacing Impeller on '85 2001

How do I replace the impeller on an '85 2001 Ski Nautique. I would have the dealer do it but it is going to take 3 weeks for them to get the boat back to me. The only reason it is getting replaced is because the dealership recommended getting the impeller replaced when we summerized the boat.

    RE: Replacing Impeller on

Easy....BUT make sure you mark the exit (the casing is symetric) so that you dont put it back on such that it sucks the water out of the block. It will overheat in a few minutes.

And there should be at least a few out there that can nod their heads and say....DONE THAT. I don't have the Sherwood number anymore, but you can get the parts at http://www.skidim.com/ (Sponsor of USA Water Ski).

Two bolts on the pump, three bolts on the pump casing. Coat the impeller with KY jelly (does not eat the rubber and makes sure is does not stick while waiting to get in the water.

I used to just liquid gasket the casing back together.

Going from memory. I carry a spare and the tools to change. You can do it on the water.

The Owners manuals for a 1991 CC are on this site. The change out procedure from that manual is the same (same water pump).

    Good luck!

      RE: Replacing Impeller on

The pump is the same on a 91 but the installation is reverse. When reinstalling the pump, make sure the screw in the side of the pump housing is away from the block. 85 is r/h rotation, 91 is l/h rotation. Other than that it is the same

How often should impellers be changed? How many hours?
        Thanks

Very easy! You don't need no stinkin dealer!
Chris Becker's got you going in the right direction. Pull pump, Undo casing, pull out, put in, reattach = 5 Min's!
Tough part is getting it not to leak. I've also used a liquid gasket. (Chris - Yep - DONE THAT)
