    Backseat fun with a 216

We've just got a new 216. Most things are good apart from the backseat!. Its a total pain to get out with two locking pins located under the seatback.
When it is out you see that it is just a big empty box!

WHY have CC taken space up in the back locker with ballast tanks when there is a big empty space under the seat.

Can I get an additional ballast tank that replaces the existing base?, and with catches on the side that I can get at?

M/C use a great quick connect system for adding bags in the back of the small Xseries.

    Any info gratefully received.

The gas tank is under the back seat. You don't want to remove that seat base.

Hey you're lucky that rear seat comes out period! lol... In 04 only the center piece came up... Now it literally is impossible to take the whole bench out and clean... If you find a way to get around this let me know! lol thanks.

I though the Gas tank was Behind the back seat like the 196/206, and the base was just an empty box.

The Gas tank is made in the shape of an L and is under the back seat and behind. If you shift the carpeted panels in the rear hatch inward (such that they overlap) you get access to two nice size storage areas outside the gas tank. If you shift the panels enough you can see the corners of the tank. I have my tank corners exposed and open the hatch and visually watch the tank fill when pumping gas. So I know when it is truly just below full.

On the '04, if you remove the panels that are along the gas tank, you will find a hand knob in the center area that is on a bolt through the fiberglass. On the outside edge of the seat back on either side (reaching through from the hatch) you will find the same. Take of the knobs and you can pull out the rear seat back. This exposes two stainless steel pins in the seam between the seat base and the seat back about 2/3 in from the outside edge which allow you to remove the seat base and gain full access to the gas tank.

Be carefull taking out the seat back, cause the bolts on the seat back that poke through holes in the fiberglass like to scratch the glass. Little care and a lot of patience.

I have taken mine out twice in the year I have owned. I had a leaking rear balast tank and needed access to inspect and to dry out everything. Besides, it is fun to take it apart and see how CC designed it (Hey I am one of those guys that takes everything apart).

Next time I have it out, I will take some pics. Maybe next time I "really" clean the boat.

Christopher - well after you take things apart I bet you get them back together. I am the guy that takes it apart and then does all the research on this site of how to get it back together - smile.

Sounds to me like you have purchased a boat converted to run on LPG not petrol !!!

The plan is to put it on LPG.

Thanks for the info on taking it apart as this will be useful when we get around to the LPG conversion.
