    Anybody tried vinyl dye?

The engine box on my 97 Sport has some stains that simply will not come off. The boat is getting on a bit but in very good condition. I don't really see the need to re-cover just yet as this would be rather expensive and add no value to the boat. So I am considering using a vinyl dye to bring it back to the original white colour. Worst case if it goes wrong, I bite the bullet and replace the skin. If it does work then I may also consider changing the colour of the seat bases, currently a pale (and dated) shade of grey.

Wondering if anybody has any experience of using vinyl dye, good or bad?

I know absolutely nothing about dye, and i dont know what you have tried, but check out my results using babes seat soap in the maintenance section, takes a lot of scrubbing, but may be worth a try.

Love me some babes. To condition with!! Go to the dollar store pick up some LAs totally awesome and a soft dish brush. Spray on the totally awesome use the brush to scrub , wipe off with wet towel and condition with the babes. Done! I think that dye will not do good in the sun and all of the stuff that happens to a boat. Water , sun screen, etc. I had the same on our boat before cleaning it looked gray. Now she's all white !!!

Thanks for the tips. I've tried all the cleaning products I can get my hands on, unfortunately the marks simply do not shift. I'll try the dye out and see what happens, worst case I replace the skin... Will post some pictures for future reference.

for anybody interested, the dye worked VERY well, it looks original. Product was made by Magix / Grison.

I managed to get a tiny bit of overspray, which turned out to be a pig of a job to remove even onto vinyl that had protectant freshly applied, so I am confident the dye will wear well on the area that was fully prep'd. I'll probably paint the other white areas of vinyl in the winter to get a better colour match. Worked out a whole heap cheaper than replacing vinyl just because it is discoloured....
